Memorial Day Events MN
Mueller Memorial is happy to provide a convenient guide to Memorial Day events in the Twin Cities. Most cemeteries host some sort of service to commemorate the servicemen and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
Dates and Times
Every effort is made to get confirmation from the cemeteries for the exact date and times for services, and the times listed here will be noted as "confirmed" as we hear the 2023 Memorial Day service time from each cemetery staff. Until we receive confirmation, services we know are taking place but do not yet have a confirmed start time will be noted as "expected" (based on past service times). We will update the list as times are confirmed. Please check back for updates and call the cemetery to confirm times.
Decoration Day at Fort Snelling
Historic Fort Snelling | 200 Tower Ave, St Paul, MN 55111
May 27-29, 10AM to 4PM
Cost: TBD
Spend Memorial Day weekend at Historic Fort Snelling and experience how Minnesota celebrated “Decoration Day,” an early style of what we know as Memorial Day today.
Throughout the weekend the site will host programming on the entire 23 acre site from the new prairie landscape, inside the Plank Museum & Visitor Center and of course the historic reconstructed Fort Snelling.
On Saturday they will be rededicating the reconstructed 1820s fort flag pole. Historically the flag pole lasted about 10-15 years before the army had to replace it. A short ceremony will be held on Saturday morning to put up the large garrison flag for the first time since 2021.
On Monday Historic Fort Snelling will host “Decoration Day.” Staff will be dressed in 1890s military costuming to present “Decoration Day” speeches that reflected on past conflicts, especially the American Civil War, commonly heard during the late 1800s.

Fort Snelling National Cemetery — Memorial Day Service
Ft. Snelling National Cemetery | 7601 34th Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55450
May 29, Ceremony in the late morning, usually around 10AM
As of page publication on April 4 2023, Ft Snelling had yet to officially announce the Memorial Day schedule of events but attendees can certainly expect a ceremony recognizing the service of all veterans who fell in the line of duty. There is usually music from the 34th Infantry “Red Bulls,” a wreath presentation, veterans parade, rifle volley, and Taps. They expect many people, so plan to arrive early if you’d like to secure a seat. You’re also welcome to bring your own lawn chair if you’d like to arrive closer to the start time. For more information, visit cem.va.gov/cems/nchp/ftsnelling.asp or call 612-726-1127.
