Learn about Native American history and the fort’s role in US expansion. Explore stories of African Americans at Fort Snelling, including Dred and Harriet Scott whose struggle to gain freedom from slavery helped ignite the Civil War. Join in activities and watch demonstrations like cannon firings, blacksmithing, and more. Kids can try out historic games as well as a brand-new, STEM-focused activity to earn a special prize. On Monday, don’t miss a special “living timeline” of America’s military past on the parade ground, with costumed staff and reenactors sharing the history of Americans serving in armed conflicts.

May 28, Ceremony at 10:00 a.m.
A ceremony recognizing the 100 th anniversary of the end of WWI and the service of all veterans who fell in the line of duty. There will be music from the 34 th Infantry “Red Bulls,” a wreath presentation, veterans parade, address from Major General Neal G. Loidolt, rifle volley, and Taps. They expect many people, so plan to arrive early if you’d like to secure a seat. You’re also welcome to bring your own lawn chair if you’d like to arrive closer to the start time.
