Virgil Knutson, age 78, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025, surrounded by family. Virgil was born May 8, 1946, the oldest child of Neal (dec. 1997) and Lois (dec. 1990). Virgil grew up near downtown St. Paul together with sisters Barb and Marge and brother John (dec. 2024). After graduating from Humboldt High School in 1964, Virgil met the love of his life, Judy Capistrant, while working for the Civil Defense department.
Virgil and Judy were married in 1967 and began their life together living in the Como Park neighborhood. They were blessed with four sons – Steve, Mike, Dan, and Dave. Together, they shared a happy home, enjoying family time, vacations, pets, birthdays, holidays, and the simple joys of life.
In 1987, Virgil and family made a big, bold move – to White Bear Lake. The larger house gave the family room to grow, and soon after, Virgil became a father-in-law to 4 (Huong, Alexander, Linda, Sara), a grandfather to 14 (Marissa, Noelle, Lucas, Orion, Elaera, Colton, Mike, Chris, Reanna, Trenton, Alaina, Olivia, Ben, and Jake), and a great-grandfather to 2 (Stiorra and Cameron). Virgil supported his family through the years by working for the Postal Service from which he retired in 2008 after 42 years of service.
Virgil was a gentle soul who made everyone feel comfortable with his easy-going manner. He was a kind-hearted man with a strong faith in God. He had a love for science and maps, enjoying books about nature and the universe and always planning his next trip. Virgil also loved science fiction (Star Trek, X-Files) and all things odd, unusual, and mysterious about the world (Art Bell, Bigfoot, UFOs). He loved to bike and enjoyed traveling, including a trip of a lifetime to Hawaii with Judy and annual trips to Ely with his sons and their families. Virgil will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
