Violet Ada Sawyer
Violet was born on September 5, 1926 in Prince Rupert, B.C. Canada. She was one of 15 children to Ada (nee Darwood) and William Bagshaw. She met the love of her life, Clare Victor Sawyer while he was stationed in Prince Rupert. He would come to eat at Smiles Seafood Cafe where she was a waitress. They were Married on April 9th, 1945 in B.C. Canada and later moved to St. Paul.
She was a member of the Moose Lodge 963 of Maplewood and they enjoyed going there with friends and dancing. After their three children were married, they continued the tradition of going to the Moose Lodge on family days, which the Grandkid's loved. After raising her family, she got a job working in the school cafeteria. She enjoyed going to the casinos, lunch and the movies with her friends and family. While living at St. Therese of Woodbury she looked forward to playing bingo and going to the movies with the ladies.She had a great sense of humor and a lovely smile. Her children, grandchildren and Great Grandchildren were the center of her world, she adored them. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Violet passed away at St. Therese of Woodbury on July 24, 2018 at age 91. She is preceded in death by her husband, Clare Victor Sawyer; her parents, Ada and William Bagshaw; her daughter, Susan Erickson; and her son-in-law, Bob Hartman. She is survived by her children, Karen Hartman of Maplewood and Bob (Debbie) Sawyer of Shoreview; her son-in-law, Vince Erickson of Arizona; her 6 grandchildren, Joe (Beth) Hartman of Oakdale, Sherri (Wayne) Ptacek of Prescott, Brian (Niki Flores) Hartman of North St. Paul, Chris (Kim) Sawyer of Centerville, Jim (Meg) Sawyer of Lino Lakes, and Jeff (Cait Gunhus) of Hampton; her 13 great-grandchildren, Jon Hartman, Madison Hartman, Nicole Ptacek, Damian VanDunaker, Olivia Hartman, Robert Hartman, Maddy Sawyer, Jack Sawyer, Ella Sawyer, Robbie Sawyer, Zach Sawyer, Leila Sawyer, and Gianna Sawyer; her sister, Ruby Swain of Edmonton Alberta Canada; and other family and friends.
There will be an 11AM memorial service on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Mueller Memorial, 835 Johnson Parkway, St. Paul, with a visitation from 10-11AM. Interment to follow at Fort Snelling Cemetery. A very special thank you to the staff at St. Therese of Woodbury.
