Thomas Michael Stevens
Age 67 of Rochester and Wyoming
Passed Away on September 23, 2016
Tom was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on July 9, 1949, the son of Mary âArleneâ (nee Miller) and William Joseph Stevens. He was raised in Little Canada and graduated in 1968 from Kellogg High School. Right after graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army. He served overseas in Korea and Germany. After being honorably discharged, he became a printer by trade. Outside of work, he was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed using his crossbow to hunt pheasant, squirrels, deer, and other animals. Whenever possible, he was out on the boat fishing. He moved to Wyoming, Minnesota for a large portion of his adult life before moving to Rochester in 2010. Tom loved Star Trek and was considered a dedicated âTrekkie.â He had many talents, but his most memorable is his cooking and grilling. He was the official family BBQâer and made phenomenal ribs. He could put a spicy kick in his food and if you could handle it, his chili and soups were amazing. He was very particular about his yard and his lawn always looked like carpet. Besides the great grass, his yard was full of apple trees and vegetables in his garden. Tom was a true family guy. He was a protective big brother to his three sisters, a fun uncle to all his nieces and nephews (he was the uncle who could rile up all the kids), and a wonderful âpapiâ to his granddaughter. He was a very sarcastic, witty, and funny guy. Most people would consider him a smart aleck, but loved his comments nevertheless. A teacher once referred to him as a troublemaker but one of his favorite students. He was as outgoing and friendly as a person could be and he could make friends with anyone. If anyone called him Thomas, he was quick to say âMy name is Tom.â He will truly be missed by all who knew him.
Tom passed away very peacefully at the VA Hospital on the morning of Friday, September 23, 2016. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arlene and William Stevens; his brother, Terrance Stevens; and his brother-in-law, Ralph Aljets. He will be dearly missed by his daughter, Michelle Stevens; his granddaughter, Asiana Klassen of Maplewood; his sisters, Cathy Warner of St. Paul, Mary Willman of Anoka, and Connie Aljets-Fuchs (Bob Fuchs) of Rochester; his nieces and nephews, Jason (Tina) Stevens, Rachel Aljets, Nicole Warner, Alex (Jenae) Iverson, and Kaydi (James) Tunnell; many great nieces and nephews; and many other family and friends.
There will be a gathering for friends and family from 10-11AM with the Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM at St. Johnâs Catholic Church, 380 Little Canada Road E, Little Canada. Private interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
