Thomas Spielman

February 24, 1953 — March 23, 2025

Thomas "Tom" Spielman, age 72, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2025, at Lyngblomsten Care Center in St. Paul, Minnesota, after a brave and courageous battle with esophageal cancer.

Tom was born on February 24, 1953, on the East Side of St. Paul, and graduated from Johnson High School with the Class of 1971. He went on to build a successful career as a sales supervisor, working with several companies over the years including General Industries where he met and fell in love with his future bride, Donna. He had a long tenure with Old Home Foods, and concluded his career with UNFI at Lunds & Byerlys. His professional life was marked by dedication and reliability.

On May 22, 1976, Tom married his true love, Donna. Together they raised three daughters: Kristina (Mark) Helin, Jennifer Nash, and Amanda (Joe) Tembreull. He was a proud grandfather to Morgan, Bayley, Shelby, Sam, and Scarlett, and great-grandfather to Beckett. He also shared a close bond with his sisters Chris Salmen and Kathy Raycraft.

Tom had a lifelong passion for music. Most recently, he played baritone with Brio Brass. He was active with Drum & Bugle Corps throughout his life, marching and playing soprano, baritone, and/or instructing for the St. Paul Scouts, the Blue Knights, and Minnesota Brass. He found great joy and camaraderie through performance. Music was a meaningful part of his life and identity, and Tom shared his gift by playing Taps at burials at Fort Snelling.

A man of quiet strength and quick wit, Tom was known for his steadfast presence and generous heart. An avid reader, he found comfort in books and scripture alike. Tom embraced his faith more deeply in recent years and accepted Jesus Christ as his savior-a transformation that brought him peace during his final chapter.

May Thomas Spielman's memory bring comfort to those who knew him and may his legacy live on through the music he loved, the family he cherished, and the faith that carried him home.

The Lord our God said in Romans 14:8

"If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord."

"For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:17-18
