Thomas M. Conlin
Beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather
Passed away surrounded by his family at home in North Oaks on 9/23/12 at the age of 82.
Tom was born in Mankato, Minnesota on 7/23/30. His father was chief of police but died suddenly when Tom was 9 yrs. old. He graduated from Mankato State Teachers college (Minnesota State, Mankato) and was in the Army Counter Intelligence Corps. in Washington during the McCarthy hearings. He graduated from St. Paul College of Law (William Mitchell) in 1958. Tom had a glorious 45 year career as a trial lawyer at the St. Paul law firm of Murnane Brandt (formerly Murnane, Conlin, White & Brandt) trying well over 150 jury trials. He was a born leader and enjoyed his associations with American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), American College of Trial Lawyers, Minnesota Defense Lawyers, Ramsey County Bar (past president), MN State Bar, among others.
Tom was an accomplished and all-around athlete and was inducted into the Minnesota State Athletic Hall of Fame in basketball, baseball, and golf. He was a longtime member at North Oaks Golf Club and treasured his many friends there.
He will be missed by the Sweet Old Boys (SOBS), Golf Addicts, Young Men's Downtown Assoc (YMDA) ski group, poker club, couples bridge, prayer group, and daily mass at St. Mary of the Lake Church.
His favorite avocation was connecting people and was a friend to all who knew him. He had a wonderful smile, adventurous spirit, and a self-deprecating sense of humor. He lived to support his children and grandchildren in all their sports and activities. He was sustained by his faith in God and a positive mental attitude.
He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 57 years, Jane; 6 children, John (Nancy), Katie (Bill) Dewitt, Sheila (Mark) Conlin-Brandenburg, Patrick (Patti), Carrie (Marty) Kottke and Bill (Sarah); 13 grandchildren, Thomas, Courtney, Patrick, Annie, Daniel, Sarah, Michael, Clara, Shawn, Ben, Nick, Will and Johnny; sister-in-law, Evelyn Conlin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Marie (nee Schmidt); brother, Patrick; sister, Marguerite and (Robert) DeHaven.
The family wishes to thank his fine doctors, nurses and caregivers at Minnesota Oncology Physicians, Mayo Clinic, VA Hospital, and Heartland Homecare and Hospice.
Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 am Saturday, 9/29/12, at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, 4741 Bald Eagle Ave., White Bear Lake with visitation 4-8 pm, Friday, 9/28/12 at Mueller Lake Mortuary, 4738 Bald Eagle Ave., White Bear Lake and 1 hour prior to Mass. Interment at a later date at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, the Thomas M. Conlin Scholarship Fund at the William Mitchell College of Law or to a charity of your choice.
