Ruby Joanne Tornquist Anderson

Loving, kind, inspiring, smart, beautiful and strong, Ruby Joanne Anderson passed away September 9, 2015 at Episcopal Church Home in St. Paul, MN. She was born in Galesburg, IL on April 9, 1930, the daughter of Ruth (Erlandson) and Peter Tornquist. She graduated from Galesburg Central High School and married Dale R. (Pete) Anderson on March 5, 1949. They farmed in Burns Township, Henry County, IL for more than 20 years and then moved to Kewanee, IL. After raising four children Ruby went to college and graduated from Black Hawk College East with an associate degree. She then worked several years at Abilities Plus in Kewanee until she and Pete retired and moved to Galva, IL. Among her many activities she was an engaged member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Kewanee, as well as a board member of the Bishop Hill, IL Heritage Association. In 2011 they moved to Episcopal Homes senior community in St. Paul, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, one brother, one grandson and two great-grandsons. Survived by daughters Carolyn Ruth Anderson (Tom O’Sullivan) and Laurie Lynn Anderson (Jon Hanson) of St. Paul, MN, sons Carl Michael Anderson (Liana Floy) of Wake Forest, NC and Jeffrey Dale Anderson (Kristen Welsh) of Geneva, NY, as well as one brother, Charles Tornquist of Hot Springs, SD; three grandchildren, Megan Rae Vasko (Dan) of Louisburg, NC, Sean Brennan Anderson and Robin Brennan Anderson of Adelaide, Australia; six great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Rux Funeral Home in Galva, IL on September 15, 2015 from 5:00-7:00 pm, followed by private burial on September 16 at Oneida Cemetery in Oneida, IL. Rev. Dr. Dale Dykstra will officiate. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Kewanee, IL or The Bishop Hill Heritage Association, Bishop Hill, IL.
