Interment, Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Mahtomedi. Robert Mathew Meis passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday afternoon, December 22, 2014. Bob had a wonderful life and loved his family, friends and the gift of nature. Bob is survived by his wife Mary Jane - ‘Jane’, of 63 years – his high school sweetheart. He is also survived by all of his children and their spouses - Diane Schuweiler (Lew), Sharon Eichten (Bob), Jim Meis (Kathy Zehnder), Robin Kleinendorst (Gary), Mark Meis (Terri) and Steve Meis (Kathy). Bob had 16 grandchildren. Lisa Schuweiler Montgomery (Jordan), Brian Schuweiler (Carmen), Courtney Kleinendorst Silvan (Mike), Meredith Eichten, Stacey Kleinendorst, John Eichten, Lauren (Meis) Schuyler, Brad Meis, Nikki Kleinendorst Hanson (Brice), Garret Kleinendorst, Jake Meis, Natalie Eichten, Kacey Meis, Hailey Meis, Ellie Meis and Ryan Meis. He was also great-grandpa to Julia and Jack Montgomery and Mitch Silvan. Bob attended Harding High School and graduated in 1949. After high school he entered the Army and served during the Korean War. He was blessed to be sent to the Bordeaux region of France and served with the 687th Engineers Water Supply Company. Mary Jane and Bob were married August 18, 1951 at Sacred Heart Church in St. Paul. They lived on the eastside of St. Paul until 1986 when they built a home in Pine Springs. They were longtime parishioners of Blessed Sacrament Church. Bob worked in the commercial printing business his entire career. He and Mary Jane spent a short time in Duluth early in their marriage where he assembled and repaired presses for Addressograph Multigraph Corporation. They returned to St. Paul in 1955 and Bob began working for Handschy Chemical Company. For many years Bob sold commercial printing ink throughout the 5 state area. He became Minneapolis branch manager and he retired in 1991. Dad made many great friends in his work. Bob and his family spent many summers and autumns at the cabin on Big Sandy. He was a duck hunter and deer watcher – he just couldn’t shoot them in his later years. Every summer was a search for the big fish but in the end, the dock was a great place to fish with all the kids – the heck with the big fish. Bob had lifelong friends that he cherished. His extended family played a large part in Bob’s early life. His nieces, nephew and cousins were always important to him. Bob is preceded in death by his parents Ed and Marie (Balzart) Meis, his brothers Donald and Gordon, his sister-in-law, Elsie, nieces Cathy and Donna and in-laws, Cleveland and Mabel Peltier. A special ‘thank you’ to all the staff at The Pillars Hospice Home, Oakdale. They are a kind and caring staff that made dad’s last days peaceful and comfortable. We have a hole that will never be able to be filled. Love you dad.
