Loberg, Robert J., 94, Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather, passed away on October 3, 2024. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Loberg; sons, Thomas and William Loberg; and daughter, Barbara Salem. He is survived by his children, Don (Holly) Loberg and Karen (Scott) Woodward; son-in-law, Daniel Salem; daughter-in-law, Diane Loberg; grandchildren, Tyler (Melissa) Woodward, Hannah (Jordan) Nousain, Michael (Laura)Woodward, Kati Loberg, Stephanie Salem, Eric Loberg, Rob (Veronica) Woodward, Sam (Lucy) Salem, Rachel (Pierce) Erickson, Ryan Loberg, Joy Loberg, Shelby Loberg; and great-grandchildren, Alexander Woodward, Luca Nousain, Jeremiah Woodward, Elliott Nousain, Miller Woodward, and Monroe Woodward; Sister-in-law Florence Erickson, and brother-in-law Richard Ginnaty and many nieces and nephews.
Robert grew up on the Eastside of St. Paul. He was the eldest son of Elmer and Agnes Loberg. He had two brothers, Warren and Douglas. Robert graduated from Harding High School. In 1950, he joined the Marine Corps and served in combat in the Korean War. He received distinguished honors, such as Army Unit Citation, Korean Services with distinction, Presidential Unit Citation, and United Nations medal. He returned home to marry his high school sweetheart, Rose K. Ginnaty, in 1953. He studied Accounting at the University of MN, earning his Bachelor of Science in Business and becoming a CPA. He was a Little League coach on the east side of St. Paul for nearly two decades, teaching baseball and encouraging many young boys to be the best versions of themselves. He was socially active in the Elk’s Club, local and state level of the VFW, American Legion, MN CPA Society, and North Star Chorus. He loved playing cards, softball, bowling, golfing, fishing, watching the MN Twins and MN Vikings, and occasionally heading to the casino. His friends called him “Mr. Luck.” Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 4, 2024, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 655 Forest St., St. Paul, MN 55106, with visitation an hour prior. Interment will follow at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Lung Association or Parkway Little League.
