Age 89 of Hugo

Rita Ann (Rosendahl) Shimota passed away peacefully on May 15, 2024. She was born May 18, 1934 in Tyrone Township, MN to Charlie and Dolores and grew up and was schooled in New Prague, MN. Married her husband Leonard Shimota in 1954 and made their first home in Minnetonka. Their new family then moved in 1971 to an old farmstead in rural Hugo.

Preceded in death by her parents; husband of 64 years, Leonard; brother, Richard; and brother & sister-in-law, Wilbert & Caroline.

Survived by children, Lindsay (Don) Sovil, Jennifer (Brad Bohlmann) Shimota, Jon M. and Patrick Shimota; granddaughter, Casey Sovil; sister, Lois Edel; brothers, William and Jim; many nieces & nephews; and special family friend, Luke Lindstrom.

Rita enjoyed playing all the old songs on the upright piano her grandfather bought for his growing family in 1910. She loved books and always had her current read at the ready. Living in an old farm house she learned the art of quilt making and created beautiful, award-winning, hand-quilted quilts to keep her family and friends warm. Her cookie jar was always full.
