Richard James Naughton
Age 71, of Little Canada
Formerly of the East Side
Died suddenly at home in his sleep on December 19, 2016. Preceded in death by parents Thomas and Bernadette (Welsch) and brother Joseph. Survived by beloved wife of 48 years Sandy (Steele); children Alexandra (Jason OâKeane), Cameron (Nicolas Ramirez) and Andrew (Kelly McLain); grandchildren Sophie, Estelle, Holly, June, Malu, Liv, Tomas and Cleo; brothers Thomas and Bernard Naughton and too many dear friends to name. As president of James Steele Construction Company he worked for decades with generations of skilled craftsmen proudly building beautiful structures including the MN Vietnam Veterans Memorial. He was an exceptional athlete, although his proudest achievement was his family and nothing made him happier than when they were all together. Weâd be grateful for help in collecting favorite stories and the countless Richard-isms. Swearing is completely acceptable. Our hearts are so broken. He made the world a far more interesting and fun place to be, and the hole he left will be here forever. Our comfort is what we know beyond a doubt: that he loved us so much, that we loved him right back, and that he lives on in his eight beautiful grandchildren. Visitation 4-8 PM on Tuesday, December 27 at Mueller Memorial, 835 Johnson Pkwy., St. Paul. A service will be held at 2 PM with a visitation one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, December 28 at the McNamara Alumni Center, 200 SE Oak St., Minneapolis. Parking is available in the ramp adjacent to the Alumni Center on University Ave and in the Washington Ave Ramp one block southwest. Driving directions can be found at http://mac-events.org/directions/. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers.
