Phil was a third generation proprietor of Kormann’s Grocery which served the lower east side, including Railroad Island. He loved “the neighborhood” and was a very generous and respected leader there. As a member of the East Side Lions, S.C.O.R.E. and the ESNDC, he came to know hundreds of residents and business people in the city of St. Paul. He made such an impact, that, at the time of his retirement, it was declared “Phil Kormann Day” in the city. Faith, family, and music were the core of his life. He volunteered his piano playing gift at Woodwinds Hospital for several years. Phil is survived by wife, Jan; beloved children and grandchildren, David and Kendra Arnold of Morristown, NJ; Mary, Bob and Gabriel Gregory Messner of St. Paul; and Matthew, Heidi and Mackenzie Rose of Southlake, TX. Mass of Christian Burial 10AM on Friday, October 9, 2015 at Marian Care Center, 200 Earl Street, St. Paul, with visitation from 9-10AM. Interment, Calvary Cemetery in St. Paul. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are encouraged to HealthEast Hospice.
