Peter Louis DeZurik
Pete was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on July 17, 1946. He was the son of Rose DeZurik (nee Davich) and Louis DeZurik. He graduated from Johnson High School and enlisted in the United States Army. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to the Twin Cities. While at a dance at Flahertyâs, he met the love of his life, Mary Glaudel. They began dating and were married at St. Alfonsus Church in Brooklyn Center on May 5, 1973. Pete worked for Great Northern (later Burlington Northern) as a Painter Carpenter until 1986. After being injured on the job, he left his hard labor career for a passion in baseball. Pete began working with the Kansas City Royals as a scout. He traveled all over the Midwest looking for up and coming baseball players. He played ball for the Army while he was enlisted so he knew the sport very well. When he was not working, he was spending time with many different organizations throughout his life. He was the president of the Memorial Day Association and planned the annual ceremony and fly over at Union Cemetery in Maplewood. He was also a Past Faithful Navigator of the Knights of Columbus and a Past Commander of the VFW Post 1171 from 1992-1993. He and Mary were members of the original St. Ambrose, then to St. Johnâs on Forest when St. Ambrose relocated, and lastly they were members of St. Jeromeâs when St. Johnâs closed. Pete was an extremely outgoing and funny guy who would describe himself as âa quiet and shy guy.â He could talk to anyone, anywhere, about anything so he was certainly anything but quiet and shy. He loved to watch the Minnesota Vikings and the day before he passed, he was inducted into the Vikings World Order at his home. He and Mary loved to travel and took roadtrips to South Dakota (the Rapid City and Black Hills area) and to New Orleans. He was extremely handy and enjoyed working on cars. Pete will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
In December of 2017, Pete had some medical issues. After many appointments and hospital stays, Mary brought him home to be comfortable. He passed away peacefully on January 22, 2018 while surrounded by his family. He is preceded in death by his mom, Rose. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Mary DeZurik (nee Glaudel); his four children, Kristine M. (Mark) Boesel of Cottage Grove, Peter J. (Polly) DeZurik of Maplewood, James R. (Erin) DeZurik of Mounds View, and Laura L. (Josh) Tesch of West St. Paul; his 9 grandchildren, Macala Boesel, Ashley Boesel, Marcus Demers, Francesca DeZurik, Madie Testor, Vivian DeZurik, Ryan DeZurik, Brody Tesch, and Camryn Tesch; his sister, JoAnn (Richard) Wagner of Maplewood; his brothers, Robert (Sue) DeZurik of Jacobson, and James (Clydia) Jacobsen of Backus; his sisters-in-law, Sr. Lois Ann Glaudel, OSB of Duluth and Catherine Lyke of Backus; and many other family and friends.
