Patricia passed away surrounded by the love of her family on October 23, 2023.
Preceded in death by parents, Vern and Eileen Dahl; sister, Pamela Williams and parents-in-law, Andrew and Delores Marier.
Survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Alfred; her children, Peter (Denise) Marier, Theresa Sellie (Joe Peltier), Michelle (Dennis) Gadbois and Daniel (Mary Jane) Marier.
Loved so much by her eleven grandchildren; Myranda, Nash, Alycia (Matt), Joseph, Brittany (Zack), Chase, Allison, Drake (Maria), Emy (Luke), Betsy and James.
Pat felt so blessed to have four great grandchildren; Isaac, Emersyn, Greyson and new baby Russell.
Pat was born September 23, 1942 and was raised in White Bear Lake in various houses that her father had built on his own. She attended elementary school at St. Mary of the Lake School and graduated from the Catholic school for girls, St. Joseph’s Academy in St. Paul. During these years, she found the gift of lifelong friends that she continued to make memories with until her passing day.
Pat met the love of her life, Alfred Marier on a blind date; they dated for 3 years and then were married on January 26th, 1963, at St. Mary of the Lake Church in White Bear Lake. After living for a brief time in a very tiny house on Stewart Avenue in White Bear Lake, they moved into their lifelong home in Vadnais Heights. It was in this neighborhood that Pat not only made new friends, but these friends became like family. They all helped raise each other kids; they laughed and cried, supported and loved one another through every step of life.
During these years, in addition to the work of raising four kids, she spent time going to knitting (snack) club, attending every home sale party in rotation around the neighborhood and perfecting her bowling game. In regards to her many jobs she had through the years, she said her favorites were the bookends of her career, the first being a medical receptionist for Dr. Reif and the last working for the religious supply store, Lohmann’s in downtown St. Paul.
Pat’s most cherished role was that of grandma and great grandma. She attended all the activities of her grandchildren and was their biggest cheerleader. It didn’t matter if they weren’t the lead or starting player because after grandma talked to you, you definitely felt like you were the shining star of the event! She took immense pride in all their accomplishments and never hesitated to let them know that she loved them and to show them that they mattered to her.
Pat wrote on her health care directives that “the things that make life most worth living to me are: my family and friends”. She valued time with them so much and would never decline an invitation to spend time with the people she cared about. Even when she was sick she said that time with her people was the best pain medicine. An amazing example of this is that only two days before her passing, she was overjoyed to be attending the one year birthday party for her great-grandson, Greyson. She knew if it was at all possible she wanted to be a part of that family celebration and we know it meant the world to her.
She will forever be remembered for her joy, her humor, her generosity and her gift of seeing the good in all things. Her light and her love will be missed by so many but we are all blessed to have had her as a part of our lives. Thank you Pat for all that you gave us and all that you have left in us.
