Ninh Thi Horgen passed away peacefully on Dec. 28, 2024, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was 74.
Ninh's whole life was marked by incredible resilience, starting with her childhood in Vietnam. Born on Sept. 16, 1950, in the southern city of Tay Ninh, she was the second eldest of 11 siblings, arriving just minutes after her twin sister. The beloved daughter of Deo and Kieu Nguyen, she quit school early to help raise her brothers and sisters at a time when war loomed over the entire country.
In 1973, Ninh journeyed to the United States with her eldest son Lang Van (whose father Ly Van Dang was killed in the war). She spent most of her years in Waite Park, Minnesota, working as a teller at Great River Federal Credit Union. Known for her ultra-positive attitude, Ninh loved serving her community as an interpreter and often spoke about Vietnamese culture in schools.
Ninh found immense joy in her family. She was deeply proud of her sons, Lang Van (Heather) and Tom (Lora), both of whom live in the Twin Cities. Her greatest delight came from spending time with her five grandchildren: Malia, Aurora, Magnus, Gillian, and Naomi. She also maintained a bond with former husband Mark and his wife Sayo.
Ninh loved spreading positivity, especially through her passion for card-making. Her handmade creations were treasured gifts that reflected her generous spirit.
In her final years, Ninh resided at a memory care home in Mendota Heights, where she continued to inspire those around her with her enduring strength and grace.
