Mildred Ann "Millie" Studtmann (Wanken)

Passed away surrounded by family on April 7, 2017. Millie was preceded in death by loving husband Bill, Parents, John and Catherine; Sisters, Verna & Margaret, Brothers, Gerald & Leo, Nieces Mary & Linda. Millie was a true friend and led a very active life. She loved to cook, garden, ski, and fish with her family. She was a devout practicing Catholic so much so that there were times where we would leave the boundary waters to paddle back to the trail to hike back into town to make Sunday Mass and then go back into continue our camping vacation. Her husband Bill a devout Lutheran supported her and their son in their Catholic faith. Millie started at AT&T in the later half of the 1940’. She was a trailblazer and one of the first female managers at AT&T having started as a switchboard operator to eventually become a regional office manager. She left AT&T just as her career was taking off to have a family. With her son in high school she restarted her career with AT&T and retired from the company. Many of the men she had managed were now mangers in high positions within the company and always treated Millie with the utmost respect and gratitude for what she had taught them and did what they could to elevate her career. Millie was a lifelong volunteer beginning with the roseville schools and progressing though other organizations such as the Kidney Foundations, 4H, and the Telephone Pioneers Of America where she served as a stint as it’s President for the local chapter. She was also very active in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church community having sung in the choir and participated in many other church groups. Millie and her husband Bill were devoted parents and remarkable grandparents. They attended many soccer games, school plays, band concerts, and other such activities with great pride and joy. They were also a wonderful Aunt and Uncle to their nieces and nephews attending many of their school activities. She is survived by her Son, John (Barbi); Grandchildren, Katrianna and Jakob; Brother Kenneth (Dode) Wanken; Ten Nieces and Nine Nephews whom all love her very much. Funeral Mass is 11:00 AM on Friday, April 21 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 840 6th St. E, Saint Paul. Visitation 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Thursday, April 20 at Mueller Memorial, 835 Johnson Parkway, Saint Paul and 10 AM to 11 AM Friday, April 21 at Church. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to American Heart Association or the National Kidney Foundation Both she and her husband are greatly loved by their son and will be greatly missed and appreciated by their family Jakob, Katrianna, Barbi, and John. They were best parents and grandparents a child could have.
