Dear Family and Friends....
Merry slipped away from us, peacefully and with her immediate family members at her bedside, on September 21st. She bravely struggled through the past 4 months with Terminal Brain Cancer.
Merry was 76 years old and along with her husband Skip had just celebrated their 55th Wedding Anniversary. She lived in Englewood, Florida for the past 9 years and in the community of Boca Royale for the last 7 years; prior to that the couple lived in Forest Lake, MN.
Merry was born in Waukegan, Illinois on April 7th, 1946 to Jane & William Wheeler. At the age of 8, she moved to Minneapolis with her Mother and was
later adopted by her loving Step-Father, Bob Teigen.
She graduated from Alexander Ramsey High School in 1964 and attended St. Cloud State College.
Merry married Skip in 1967 and they had 2 extraordinary daughters Karen (Andre) Sewell and Kelly (John) Seiberlich. The Girls flew to their Mothers side on July 4th to help Skip care for & support Merry and remained with her until her passing. Merrys two Son-in-Laws, John and Andre also provided extraordinary support. The couple rejoiced in their 6 wonderful Grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Nathan, Jada, Dillon, Tori, and Vanessa. Plus there's a new little Great Grandson on his way to join Tori & Jer's family.
She worked as a Customer Service Representative for AT&T for 5 years until their first baby Karen was born. She enjoyed being a stay at home Mom for years. She went back to work at the Basket Shoppe in St. Paul and helped operate the family retail business until it was sold in 2002. Merry then worked for What's New in Gifts and managed a Showroom at the Minneapolis Merchandise Mart until her retirement in 2011. After retirement, she discovered Englewood, Florida and told Skip he could join her is he'd like, but she was done with MN winters!
She loved her family time! The couple were members of the St. Croix Yacht Club for 45 years and had owned 10 different boats over that time. Their last "Proud Merry" boat was a 52 foot live-aboard cruiser, which was slipped at the Port of Sunnyside in Stillwater, MN and also served as their summer home for 3 seasons. She enjoyed downhill skiing and the family made numerous trips to Colorado and surrounding ski areas in the upper Midwest. The couple were also active members of the Venice, FL. Corvette Club for the past 5 years.
Merry is survived by her 2 brothers, Bob and Dick (Cathy) Teigen, Sister-In-Laws, MariPat Teigen and DeeDee (George Sawyer) Ackerman and beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins on both sides of her family, plus SO MANY wonderful friends who Merry loved dearly.
A Remembrance Gathering will be held in Englewood, FL at the Boca Royale Clubhouse, located at 1601 Englewood Road, Englewood, FL 34223 on September 26th from 3:00 to 4:30 PM.
There will also be a Celebration of Life Service held at the Mueller Memorial Chapel, 4738 Bald Eagle Ave, White Bear Lake, MN 55110 on October 3rd, at 4:00 PM with a Remembrance Gathering to be held afterwards until 7.
Merry requested that in lieu of flowers you consider making a small donation to Boca Cares. This community based organization sponsors over 15 local Englewood, Florida Charities. All donations go to support Women's, Children's and Veteran's groups in the area. Boca Cares, 1601 Englewood Road, Englewood, Florida 34223.
