Maurice Sims

d. December 17, 2011

Maurice Daniel Sims, affectionately known as “Reese” departed on Saturday, December 18, 2011. Reese was born on May 1, 1989 in Chicago, Illinois to Antonio and Latricia Collins. Reese accepted Christ at a young age at Greater Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois – under the leadership of Reverend David Garvin. Reese attended Murray Junior High of St. Paul, Minnesota and South High School of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Reese was the youngest of three children. Amongst the three he stood out as charming and outgoing. His smile would light up the room. He and his brother shared a bond that was deep and strong. There was no doubt that they would do anything for each other. Reese was a young man on a mission. A mission to get all that life held for him. He was enrolled in college working towards a bachelor’s degree, strived for excellence in his studies, motivated others and had a desire and lifetime dream of building homes for others. Reese was one who encouraged those around him to “do their best”, to “be their best.” He lived life each day with gratitude, the right attitude and capturing all that came his way. He was special, he gave a lot and in turn life gave him a lot. He was loved by many and will be truly missed. Reese leaves to cherish: his father, Antonio; mother, Latricia; brother, Darius; and his daughter, Daeliya. Aunts, Michelle Sims, Betty Collins (Glenn) and Antonia Smith; uncles, Sylvester Sims, Ernest Collins (Vertis), James Sims, Bernard Collins (April); and a special young cousin, Joshua Sims; and nephew, Antonio James Sims. A special friend, Kendra Wheatley. Best friends, Dionte Hampton, Pooh (Jamar), Sleep (Craig) and Early Hampton. He was preceded in death by his brother, Antonio Deshaun Sims (Duggams); maternal grandmother, Mollie Sims; paternal grandmother, Gladys Collins; grandfather, James Sims, Sr.; great grandfather, William Boyett; and great grandmother, Lenora Nelson. He leaves behind a host of family and friends, including great aunts, great uncles and cousins.
