Mary Bauer

Mary Smyth Bauer, age 97, died September 17, 2023. She was preceded in death by husband, Edward R., sons Edward Jr. and Michael S., and son in law, Jerry Dula.  She is survived by her daughters, Maureen (Craig) O’Brien, Cynthia Dula, Theresa (Jay) Allen, and Mary Ellen (Tim) Whelan, fourteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.  

Mary was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Edward and Josephine Smyth who emigrated from County Caven, Ireland in the early 20^th century.  She met her husband, Ed Bauer, at the end of WWII on the train going to New York city.  They were married and raised their family in St Paul.  Mary was very proud of her Irish heritage.  She retired from CenturyLink phone company after a long career.  Mary loved to bake, especially cookies and pies, (but she preferred Oreos).   She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren at the cabin on Horseshoe Lake in Richmond, MN, that she and Ed built.  She was politically active with the Republican party until she began to lose her eyesight. 

In her later years she was blind, deaf and in a wheelchair, but she was cheerful, kind and fun until the end.  God love her.  May she rest in peace.

Mass of Christian Burial at St Pius X Catholic Church, 3878 Highland Ave, in White Bear Lake, MN, on Monday, October 2, 2023 at 11 am, visitation one hour before, lunch immediately after.  Interment following lunch at Resurrection Cemetery, Mendota Heights.
