Marvel Phyllis Roth (nee Weiss)
Marvel was born in Holloway, Minnesota on July 10, 1919 to Huldah (nee Rosenkranz) and William Weiss. She graduated high school in South Dakota and then graduated from business college. Marvel was able to work a prestigious job at 3M as an Assistant Supervisor within their international manufacturing department. This job allowed her to travel all over the world, including Canada, Detroit, New York, and Chicago. She married the love of her life, Virgil C. Roth at Mounds Park United Methodist Church. They began their family in St. Paul and she was able to stay home for many years and to take care of their son, Robert. Once Robert was in high school, Marvel took a job with Mounds Park Hospital working their switchboard for the overnight shift. When she was not working, she was very involved with church and especially enjoyed being in the church circle. Her biggest pride was the backyard that she created an oasis in. She could be found gardening, pulling weeds, taking care of the fish in her pond, and making the entire yard look gorgeous. Not only was her outdoor space gorgeous, but she kept the inside of her home beautiful. She collected many things but her main passion was her lamps and her dolls. In addition to all her other things in life, she loved listening to church music and she was also crafty with beadwork and needlepoint. Marvel was a wonderful woman who will be dearly missed by all whose lives she impacted.
Marvel passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Marian Care Center in St. Paul. It was the same building that she worked in all those years as a switchboard operator. She is preceded in death by her parents, Huldah and William Weiss; her husband, Virgil C. Roth; her sister, Delores Francis Weiss; and her two great-grandsons, Aidan and Jeremiah Roth. She will be missed by her son, Robert Roth of St. Paul; her grandson, Thomas (Jolene) Roth; her great-grandsons, Gavin Roth, Gabriel Roth, and Dominic Roth; her newest great-granddaughter, Simone Roth; her sister, Marion King; and many other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
There will be a service to celebrate Marvelâs life at 11AM on Monday, May 16, 2016 at Mounds Park United Methodist Church, 1049 Euclid Street, St. Paul with a gathering for friends and family one hour prior to the service. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
