McDonough, Martin T.
The world lost a good man when Marty passed away on March 31 at the age of 87. It was a peaceful ending and he was surrounded by his family who loved and spoiled him immensely throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nora McDonough Zalesky, his sister Kathleen and his brother John. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 62 years, Gloria, and his daughters and their husbands: Kathy and Bill Krause, Peggy and Albert Moreno, Maureen McDonough and Roger Kapsner and Susan McKusick. Survived by grandchildren, Molly Short, Katie Oxley, Liz Moreno, Gina Riley, Greg Zalesky and Jen Zalesky, Ty Krause and Ryan Krause; and one great-grandson, Alex Martin Oxley. Also survived by his sister, Mary Michaud, and brothers Richard and Joe. He was always the No. 1 favorite uncle of his many nieces and nephews.
A life-long East Sider, Marty was a WWII veteran and member of American Legion Post 599. He worked at 3M Company for 44 years, where he was very active in the union, OCAW Local 675. He was also a founding member of St. Thomas the Apostle parish. After retirement, he became an active volunteer, especially at the Marian Center, where he gained a whole new set of admirers and fans to spoil him. We’d like to thank the entire staff and all the caregivers at Marian Center for going well above and beyond to take such loving care of Marty until the end of his journey.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial to Cerenity Senior Care-Marian of St. Paul in gratitude for their compassionate care to seniors and their caregivers, or to the Animal Humane Society, in recognition of Marty’s life-long love of his faithful companion dogs, especially Kazan, Ace and Spirit.
