Mark Burger

Mark Francis Burger Age 65 of White Bear Lake, Formerly of North Branch Mark was born on the military base in Battle Creek, Michigan on November 26, 1951. He was one of three children to Geraldine (nee Simpson) and Gerald Burger. His family moved to Minnesota and he graduated from Central High School in St. Paul. While in school, he played some piano and the trumpet. After graduation, he met the love of his life, Nancy Jean Hauger, and they were married on December 7, 1974 at Roseville Lutheran Church. He was raised Catholic and both his priest and Nancy’s pastor married them. Mark was a dedicated employee with the United States Postal Service. He worked with keying and sorting at the BMC in Eagan for nearly 30 years. Outside of work, his family was the center of his life. He and Nancy raised their two daughters, Heather and Amy, in North Branch. After retiring, they moved closer to the Twin Cities to help babysit the grandchildren. Mark loved his four grandkids and would spend as much time with them as possible. His passion was music and he played a little guitar in his spare time. Whenever possible, he would try to find local churches having organ concerts in the area. He particularly loved listening to the organ at the Cathedral of St. Paul. He and Nancy enjoyed travelling and took many weekend trips to Duluth and the North Shore. Their daughter lived in Arizona for a bit and they took that opportunity to travel out there to visit. Other trips included South Dakota, Canada, Michigan (to Mackinaw Island), and Wisconsin. Anyone who knows Mark will remember his phenomenal model train collection. He always took such great care of his trains, and his cars as well. Mark had a fun, outgoing, and playful personality. He will be missed by all who knew him. Mark was diagnosed with cancer in April of 2016. Throughout everything, he still managed to stay positive and easy going. He passed away at home on Thursday, November 16, 2017. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Geraldine Burger; and his brother, Paul Burger. He will be dearly missed by his wife of almost 43 years, Nancy Burger of White Bear Lake; his daughters, Amy (Eric) Olson of White Bear Lake and Heather (Tony) Perleberg of Andover; his four grandchildren, Brenna Scott, Braedon Perleberg, Oliver Olson, and Eloise Olson; his sister, Joan (Mike) Sullivan of Pine City; his sister-in-law, Connie Matthews of Ohio; and many other family and friends. There will be a gathering to celebrate Mark’s life from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Mueller Memorial, 4738 Bald Eagle Avenue, White Bear Lake, with a service at 11:00 AM.
