Marie Louise Bristol (Snyder), age 91, was ushered peacefully into heaven February 16, 2024. She was born February 8, 1933 in Madelia, Minnesota to Martin and Adelia Snyder (Gjertsen). Preceded in death by her high school sweetheart, best friend, and husband of 67 years James Howard Bristol. Marie is survived by her children, Kathy Bristol-Lee, Guy (Rhonda), Brian (Cheryl), Steven (Alison), and Jennifer (Steve) Moore; 13 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
Marie was raised on an Angus farm in southern Minnesota along with her brothers Charles, John, Donald, and dear sister Ruth. This likely explains her love of gardening and plants. In high school she went on a double date with her sister and two young football players (Alan and James). By the end of the date they switched partners. These high school sweethearts, Ruth and Al, and Marie and Jim have been best buddies ever since. I understand Marie was also the Prom Queen her senior year, but she never told her kids any details.
She was married to Jim on August 28, 1955. Marie graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College and later obtained her vocational license from the Minnesota Department of Education and taught high school Home Economics and Family Living. Marie was gifted teacher, seamstress, and amazing cook/baker with favorite recipes published. She was dearly loved by her students. Where else could they hang out and talk about life, even learn how to balance a checkbook?
Marie was an amazing seamstress and especially loved sewing quilts. She refurbished hundreds of dolls to send to impoverished children around the world, volunteered at a women's shelter, was a leader in our local 4-H club, and always supported her children in whatever activities they pursued.
Marie was passionate about her relationship with Jesus Christ, serving many years of lay ministry in her local church, teaching Sunday School, or wherever needed. She was an example for her children, a most loving, humble, generous, kind, and compassionate person. She will be dearly missed.
