Mandy LeeAnn Shevchuk
There was no one who could make people smile better than Mandy and there was no one with a more beautiful smile than she had. Her life was spent trying to make others happy and over her short 38 years here, she did just that. Mandy passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, February 20, 2017. She was born on October 4, 1978 in Fridley, Minnesota and she was one of three children to Bobbie DeRungs. She grew up in White Bear Lake and graduated from White Bear High School.
For over 18 years, Mandy was a dedicated Pharmacy Technician at Walgreens Pharmacy off of Highway 96 in White Bear Lake. Her outgoing personality and social nature made her perfect for the job. When she was not working, Mandy loved to be with other people. She played on many volleyball and softball teams, she rounded up as many people as she could to go play Bingo or gamble, and she did any activity that meant she was hanging out with others. Those closest to her talk about her outgoing personality and how she would tell it how it was. Mandy never left you guessing, she was outspoken and lived her life for helping others. She enjoyed fishing, taking care of her two cats (Cash and Jim), getting tattoos, cheering for the Minnesota Wild, and listening to old school music. Her most unique interest was her love for frogs and frog memorabilia. If it was green or a frog, everyone was reminded of Mandy.
In 2013, Mandy courageously faced a battle against cancer and became a cancer survivor. She had gorgeous hair prior to her treatments and proudly wore her do-rags out and about when she lost her hair. She never wanted to wear a wig and eventually, her beautiful hair came back. She was constantly optimistic and happy during her treatments and a multitude of surgeries. Amazingly, during that time, she was still able to offer her caretaking skills and compassion to other family members as they needed help. Truly, she was such a hero to her family and friends that watched her throughout it all. Her mother speaks constantly about how blessed she is to have such an amazing daughter and how much she respects the woman Mandy was. More than anything, Mandyâs pride and joy was her family, especially her daughter, Hailey Marie. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Mandy is preceded in death by her grandfather, Raymond Kitlinski. She will be missed by her dear daughter, Hailey Marie Berqual of White Bear Lake; her mother, Bobbie (Bob Hughes) DeRungs of White Bear Lake; her sister, Melanie (John Southworth) Fitzgerald of White Bear Lake; her brother, Greg Steger of Hudson; her little nephew, Landan Lundin; aunts, Cheryl (Tom) Sklar and Theresa Godfrey; her close cousins, Tracy (Gary Pelland) Aymar, Angie (Chris Greene) Downs, Jennifer (Matt) Godfrey, Ryan (Amanda) Godfrey, Ray Aymar, Ashley Rose (Dustin), and Taylor Downs; her beloved cats, Jim and Cash; and many other family and friends.
There will be a gathering for friends and family from 4:00-7:00PM on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Mueller Memorial, 4738 Bald Eagle Ave., White Bear Lake, with a service to celebrate Mandy's life at 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the family, to any organization for breast cancer research, or any charity of your choice.
