Lynn Lyell Ault
Lynn hailed from Findlay, Ohio to parents Russel and Agnes and alongside brother Neil. And while Findlay can proudly claim him as a native son, it was in Lima, Ohio, where he spent his formative years, discovering a lifelong passion for cars and a special knack for inventive summer jobs. From there, he attended Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana, on an academic scholarship, which left him enough credits to go into zoology or medical school after graduation. He chose medicine and headed off to Harvard Medical School for a career in orthopedic surgery, which took him to Scotland, London, New York City, Washington D.C., and Fort Polk in Louisiana, where he proudly served in the Army as a doctor during the Vietnam War. Eventually, he found himself in Chicago, where a chance encounter led to a friend giving out his phone number to Linda Rochelle, who became the love of his life and wife of 50 years. Together, they moved to the Twin Cities and raised children Andrew & Amy, as well as several family dogs. Lynn devoted his professional life to his many patients and home life to his family, an endless to-do list on the garage chalkboard, and most weekends covered in motor grease from working on his favorite pastime, fixing cars. He loved telling stories, specializing in ones that would keep all within earshot howling with laughter. His dry sense of humor, encyclopedic knowledge, and boundless love will be deeply missed. He is survived by his children Andrew (Laura) of New Canaan, CT, Amy (Franck), Step-Granddaughter Sophia, Grandson Charlie Marret of Mendota Heights, MN, and many nieces, nephews, and their extended families. His family extends a special thanks to the caring nurses and staff at Lyngblomsten Care Center. Visitation will be held Saturday, March 30th, from 1 - 4 PM at Mueller Memorial in White Bear Lake and at a later date TBD in Arlington National Cemetery. While he would suggest anyone wishing to make a donation simply save their money, for anyone who feels compelled, please consider one in his name at either Minnesota Public Radio or the charity of your choice.
