Growing up in South Dakota, Larry embraced small-town values of compassion, hard work, and community spirit. At a young age, he was called to serve his country in the United States Coast Guard, where he spent four years stationed in San Diego, California. His time in the Coast Guard was a source of pride, and he often shared stories of the friendships and experiences that shaped him.
Following his service, Larry dedicated over 40 years to a career as a nursing home administrator, where his deep respect for the elderly and commitment to compassionate care left a lasting legacy. He was admired by colleagues, residents, and families alike for his warmth, humor, and unwavering dedication to enhancing the lives of those in his care.
In retirement, Larry's zest for life continued to shine. He had a deep admiration of birds and wildlife which fueled his appreciation for nature. He found joy in traveling, gardening, and, above all, biking, often riding for hours, simply taking in the beauty around him. An avid cribbage and card player, he found joy in volunteering and playing as a way to connect. His love for meeting new people, sharing stories, and making others smile was a gift he shared generously with family, friends, and strangers alike and his great humor and wit shone through in these moments.
Larry's gentle spirit, infectious smile, and genuine love for life will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His memory lives on in the hearts of his family, friends, and everyone whose lives he touched.
