Lawrence John Aggerbeck of White Bear Lake, MN, died peacefully on February 24, 2011, surrounded by members of his family. He was born on September 19, 1920 in Chicago, IL to Lawrence Alfred Aggerbeck (Ringkobing, Denmark) and Marie Christine Thompson (Kankakee, IL). He was raised in Chicago and was confirmed at Redeemer Lutheran Church. An excellent student at Lane Technical High School where he was involved in many activities, he was president of his senior class of 3000, graduating in 1938. Following successful completion of the co-op program in 1943, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology. Later on he attended Northwestern University where he obtained a Master’s in Business Administration. After joining the navy in 1944, he graduated from Officer’s Class Submarine School, New London, Conn. in 1945 and attained the rank of Lieutenant (junior grade) before being honorably discharged from the Naval Reserve in 1954. He was married for 36 years to Ruth Anne Filline, daughter of John Henry Filline (Chicago) and Emmy R. Toede (Germany), with whom he had 3 sons (Lawrence Paul, Mark John and Donald Carl). Following the death of his wife in 1980, he remarried to Ruth Heidorn in 1981 until their divorce in 1991. A successful business career included positions at Booze Allen and Hamilton, Mead Johnson, Brunswick Corporation (Director of Organization Planning) and Gaylord Products (President) after which he created his own management consulting firm L.J. Aggerbeck and Associates. He was named Fellow of the American Management Association in 1969. He was active in the American Lutheran Church and subsequently the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, holding several local & regional positions of leadership as well as in the Cursillo movement and Kokodos and was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church of White Bear Lake. A talented painter, he also enjoyed playing the organ, writing and collecting model trains. A source of wisdom and stability, he will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his parents, his first and second wives, and his sister Catherine. He is survived by his three sons and their wives: Lawrence (Martine), Mark (Jean), Don (Jane) and his five grandchildren: Valerie, Matthew, Christopher, Kristen and Jonathan.
