Joan Purcell
Passed away on April 11. Joan is survived by her children Timothy, Teresa (Greg), Jonathan (Elisse) and Ryan (Jennifer). She will be fondly remembered by her eight grandchildren Michael (Melissa), Katherine (Jason), Desneiges, Madeline, Samantha, Dylan, Caden and Jackson; and three great-grandchildren Joseph, Piper and Rosalie. She is preceded in death by her brother Bob Purcell husband Dennis and daughter Mary Joan.
Joanie loved her family - She was extremely proud of all her children and grandchildren She was also an avid downhill skier and loved to ride her bike. She even did the MS 150 a few times after the age of 60. She also loved to travel. Her gardens were also beautiful and she enjoyed spending time keeping them blooming all summer. She was a strong independent woman and an early advocate for women in the workplace. She was extremely generous and giving. Her strong work ethic was based on her belief of service to others. Family, Faith, and Friends were her highest values.
Upon graduating from St. Teresa's College in 1957, Joanie began her career as a Medical Technologist. Her passion for medical technology lead her to 916 Vocational College where she developed and taught the Medical Assistance program. In about 1980 Joanie furthered her career at the Veterans Administration in the Regional Educational Medical Center. Joanie organized educational seminars and training for VA doctors and nurses across the country. Her passion and commitment to veterans health care were always at the core of her service. During her 30 plus years of service at the Veterans Administration Joanie received many awards and acclamations for her dedication and work.
She will be dearly missed, yet her family is comforted knowing she is at peace.
Please join us for a celebration of her life on Wednesday 4/17 at MUELLER MEMORIAL, 4738 Bald Eagle Ave, White Bear Lake, with visitation from 5-8pm and a prayer service at 7pm.
