Joan Jordahl

Joan (pronounced "Jowan") Judith Jordahl ("Jo") was born in St. James, MN on February 6, 1932 and passed away suddenly on January 18, 2023 after a long hospitalization.

She often reminisced about her idyllic childhood in St. James and growing up in such a wonderful loving family. A proud alumna of Gustavus Adolphus College, Joan graduated with many honors in 1954 and loved every minute of her college years. Over the course of her long life, she was a gifted athlete, teacher, writer and poet. She was a longtime member of St. Philip's Lutheran Church in Fridley, MN and over the years volunteered in many ways with her church and community. Among the many joys she brought to family and friends was her annual Christmas poem. An expert in the English language, she worked at Securian proofreading documents and retired at age 70. She spent her retirement years participating in writing groups that she really enjoyed and having fun adventures with her Red Hatters group.

Jo was smart, engaging, and thoughtful. She touched and inspired many lives with her intelligence, wit, and wisdom. She loved the holidays, celebrations and gatherings with family and friends, the MN State Fair, animals (especially dogs), pizza, lefse, and the color purple. Most of all she was a very devoted Mom, Grandma, Aunt and Friend and we loved her dearly. She leaves behind many hearts that are broken by her passing.

She is survived by her daughters Erin Jordahl (George Connolly) and Jena Jordahl (Mark Henry), son Jason Jordahl, grandson Brendan Connolly, granddaughters Kristina Jordahl (Brendan Amland) and Anna and Julia Jordahl-Henry, great-granddaughter Maya Amland, many beloved nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. She was predeceased by parents Hilmer and Edith Flogstad, twin sister Yvonne Johnson (Floyd), and brother Duane Flogstad (Liz). A celebration of her life will take place on June 25, 2023 from 1-3pm at the Springbrook Nature Center, 100 85th Ave NW, Fridley, MN.
