Johnson, Jean C. Age 89 of St. Paul Passed away September 30, 2011 Jean Cecelia was born in St. Paul on November 20, 1921 to Arthur Garfield and Agnes Shellhouse. She was the youngest of three children. Her sister Clara died in 1987 and her brother Gordon died in 1986. She married Herbert R. Johnson August 14 1946. Herb and Jean spent the next 14 years in the U.S. Air Force and traveled widely, living in Germany, Japan, and Morocco. She embraced the opportunity to experience other cultures. Herb died in 1960. A vivacious and independent woman, Jean enjoyed traveling at every opportunity, and had a knack for telling stories. She had many cherished friends and was active in Toastmasters Victory Club #221 where she was treasurer, and was awarded the ATM Gold Award for public speaking. Jean was a long time member of Bethany Lutheran Church and later East Side Community Lutheran Church. She served as President of the Church Council, Secretary of the East Side Lutheran Council, a parish bible class leader as well as a choir member. She is survived by Gerald and Joyce Schultz, Katherine Hoyer, Glenn and Natalie Shellhouse, Grant Shellhouse and Daniel Shellhouse. The family shares Jean's love and heartfelt gratitude for her caring and loving friends Rollene Arndt and Denise Cook, whose friendships were the centerpiece of her final years. A Memorial Service will be held 10 AM Wednesday, Oct. 5 at Eastside Community Lutheran Church, 1212 Earl St., with a gathering 1 hr prior. Interment Ft. Snelling Nat’l Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the charity of your choice.
