The family of Jay Sutton, age 69, mourns his death on May 23, 2016 at his home in Eagan, MN. Jay was born June 21, 1946 in East St. Paul, MN. Preceded in death by parents, Gladys and Leonard Sutton, and brother Stuart. Survived by daughter Christine and son-in-law Ross Nevala; beloved grandchildren Adeline and Brayden; sister Laura Sutton; niece Sarah Hultgren; great-niece Etta Wambolt; ex-wife Sharon; and buddy Elizabeth Hurst. Shortly after graduation from Harding High School in 1964, Jay enlisted in the US Marines Corps. He was assigned to Kilo Company, Third Battalion, Seventh Marines and deployed to Vietnam. He was awarded the purple heart and hosted the 2005 reunion in Minnesota. When Christine fell in love with horses and barrel racing, he donned a black cowboy hat and rode into the rodeo. He served as State High School Rodeo Director and later could be found in the stands cheering on granddaughter Adeline. He and grandson Brayden enjoyed fishing and lunch at Cabalas'. Jay retired from Metropolitan Wastewater Treatment Plant. He was the guy you called for help, whether family, friend or country. As a Red Cross volunteer he served 20 years at the Metrodome, donated gallons of blood and was a member of the Nation National Disaster Response Team deployed after Katrina, Oklahoma City bombing, 35W Bridge and countless other national disasters. A visitation June 16th 10:30AM, memorial service 12 noon at Mueller Memorial, 835 Johnson Pkwy, St Paul, 55106 651-774-9797 followed by interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
