Jim âSlipperyâ Schaeffer
October 25, 1940 â July 17, 2021
Lifelong Eastside resident
Jim graduated from St. Thomas Academy with the class of 1958 and went on to become a pharmacist and worked at St. Josephâs Hospital (where he met his future wife), Guertinâs and Snyder Drug. Jim was known to go out of his way to help people. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a friend to many.
Jim was a lifelong member of the NRA, Bald Eagle Gun Club, Como Gun Club, Viola Gun Club, and the Twin Cities Muzzleloader Club and many other clubs of interest. He held an average score of 24.5 in Trap & Skeet and was the captain of the St. Thomas Rifle team.
Jim loved the outdoors and could be found hunting duck, pheasant or deer or enjoying the lakes or streams while fishing. He commonly brought Germaine, his wife of 54 years, along with into the outdoors. She proudly out fished him and will gladly tell you about that. The two of them took a total of 11 trips to The Boundary Waters.
Jim loved to play with and train dogs, so he always had them around. Lately, he was usually accompanied by his 4-legged, German Short Hair companion, Ralph.
It was often overheard, "Let's pack up and go for a burger and a beer", even if the fish just started to bite. This invitation was often extended to just about anyone who would stop and talk with Jim.
When Jim decided to try something, he went 110% into it. This included geocaching, fencing, archery, karate, rollerblading and many other spur of the moment pastimes. Along the way, his friend base grew with every new pastime. Jim was known to have a very large email chain that he would keep in touch with everyone he met.
He was so very proud of his granddaughters, Josie and Jamie. He thought they were, "Kool," even if they called him, "Bumpy Head."
Jim "Slippery" Schaeffer will truly be missed by everyone he met throughout his life. Blessed be his memory.
Germaine and Suzie would like to thank the many caregivers that have taken care of Dad - Entira Family Clinic, Woodbury (especially Dr. John Dickhudt,) all the caregivers at Minnesota Oncology, Woodwinds Hospital - Woodbury and last but not least, all the girls from Morning Glory Home Care.
Thank you to all our friends for your ongoing prayers and support. We appreciate you all!
One last parting statement from Jim, "Semper ubi, Sub-ubi."
