Herbert Leonard Weber was born in Greenwald, MN on January 13, 1941 to parents Leo and Mathilda Weber. He was the fifth of eight children. He joined a family that already had siblings Jim, Donna, Alice, and Vernon. Later three more boys would come along, Norman, Charlie, and John.
Herb was mischievous under the guidance of older brother Vernon in and around Greenwald. He worked at his father’s general store in town to help stock and manage inventory including candling eggs to sort out good from bad.
He met the love of his life, Katherine “Kacky” Hinnenkamp at Melrose high school in 1956. She had her eye on him from four lockers away. They would marry in 1962 and have two children, Doug (married to Bev) and Michelle (married to Eric). He was a proud Papa to his grandchildren Amelia Durrett, Mitchell Durrett, Lydia Durrett, Christopher Hoff, and Jeffrey Hoff. Three great-grandchildren (with two more on the way) brought him joy as well.
Herb lost both parents early in life and is survived by his only remaining brother Charlie. He joined the National Guard and went to the University of Minnesota to study Mathematics and Engineering. After bouncing around with early computer startups he landed a job with Sperry Univac (Unisys) that would move his family to Hatfield, PA in 1972.
He returned to Minnesota in 1975 and the family settled in Birchwood. His involvement in the White Bear Lions Club grew his and Kathy’s social circle and they had many fun, and mischievous, times with friends. He enjoyed the times of camping with Doug and Michelle. He also took pleasure in adventures with family friends, which included ski trips up north and many summer road trips. As a man of deep prayer and faith he spent over thirty years attending an annual silent retreat at Demontreville Jesuit Retreat House.
He retired from Unisys in 2000 and kept busy with exploring more of the United States and Europe. He loved golfing, entertaining family and friends at home and could mix a mean manhattan. A favorite getaway was time each year in Palm Desert. He also kept busy with work at the Washington County Courthouse, Xcel Energy Center, and Visit Saint Paul.
Herb will be remembered by his commitment to doing good work, his love and care for his family and friends, his sly humor and his strong Catholic faith. He no doubt was welcomed home by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
