Helen S. Marchek
(nee Narusiewicz)
Born August 1, 1911
Died July 9, 2011
Just days away from her 100th birthday, Helen died peacefully surrounded by her family at St. Andrew’s Village Memory Care in Mahtomedi, where she had lived for the past 5 ½ years. She was preceded in death by her parents Stanley and Louise Narusiewicz, her husband Michael Marchek, her son Richard Marchek and daughter Lucille Raduenz. She is survived by daughter Lorraine (Dick) Bastien; daughter-in-law Joan Marchek,; grandchildren Claire, Monica and Charles Bastien, Anne Petersen, Patrice Mueller, Lori and Lisa Raduenz, Suzanne, Michael and Steven Marchek, Mary Helen Bacheller and Jane Brandhagen, and sixteen great-grandchildren.
An East Sider her entire life, Helen and Mike owned and operated Mike’s Bar at Missisisippi and Grove Sts. for many years. She was a superb cook and baker who enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a feisty and quick-witted lady who dispensed cookies and self-improvement tips in a steady stream. She will be greatly missed.
The family wishes to acknowledge the extraordinary care Helen received from the entire staff at St. Andrews Village, whose names are too numerous to list here. Her last years were full and happy, and everyone from the nursing staff, floor aides, activities, dining and custodial staffs provided her with compassionate, loving and generous support as she neared the century mark. Their care is so greatly appreciated .
