Passed away on May 12, 2016. Preceded in death by wife of nearly 44 years, Armella (Henrich); and parents, Joseph and Mary. Survived by sister, Ruth Matychuk; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 AM with visitation one hour prior to Mass on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at St. Pascal Baylon Catholic Church, 1757 Conway St., St. Paul. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the church.
Harold was born on June 3, 1925 in Hartshorne, Oklahoma. He grew up on the East Side of St. Paul and attended Harrison School, Cleveland Jr. High, and Johnson High School, graduating in June 1943. Harold joined the US Navy at the age of 17. During his time in the naval service he served with the 82 Naval Construction Battalion (CBâs) in the South Pacific. Time spent was in the Solomon Islands and New Caledonia. After an Honorable Discharge in 1946 he worked at the Ford Assembly Plant. Harold resigned his position there and entered St. Thomas College, receiving the B.S., B.A., & M.E.D. degrees. He started his teaching career at the Shakopee High School, later transferring to Monroe High School where he also coached. He terminated his role as an educator from Johnson High School in 1982. He resided in St. Paul with his wife Armella until her passing in February of 2016.
