Growing up in White Bear Lake, Greg developed a passion and love for football and softball, among other sports. He has maintained close friendships with this buddies from the class of 1969, especially his great buddy since kindergarten John.  As a matter of fact the 69'rs met every Thursday morning for coffee!

He has always enjoyed sports as well as being an avid outdoorsman. He found great joy and passion being outdoors. He also loved coaching sports. His "happy places" were goose hunting with John M or up at Vermillion with Jim & Bob.

He loved his family deeply.  He was a wonderful son, brother, uncle, great uncle and  cousin.  His eyes lit up  whenever he was with our families, especially when hugging the little ones (some of them are all grown up now).

He met the love of his life Teresa in 1982 where they were both working in special education for 916 at Centerville Elementary School. They married in 1985 and spent almost 38 magical years together.  They traveled the world together and had many amazing adventures, yet they also enjoyed just sitting at home holding hands, or dancing in the kitchen.

Greg's impact on his students is immeasurable. Greg possessed a unique ability to not just look at his students, but to look into them.  His first teaching position was with 916 at Centerville Elementary school where he and Mike G built an extraordinary Adaptive PE program. He didn’t just see student's potential but celebrated them for who they were right in that moment. He returned to teaching at Crestview Elementary school as one the Elementary PE teachers.  His leadership built another extraordinary PE program. . Teresa & Greg were both offered positions in 2006 to join Frankfurt International School.  They signed up for 3 years and stayed for 9. He made an indelible mark on their P.E. program, coaching, his students, parents and colleagues. His coaching style was equal parts intensity and compassion, cheerleading and encouraging his students to strive for greatness.

Greg and Teresa returned to their home in 2015.  Greg may have been retired from teaching, yet he still had a full-time job as Teresa's greatest champion and supporter.

Their love of travel came home with them, yet instead of flying all around to exotic places they discovered they enjoyed taking road trips together. In 2019, when Teresa retired, they made several trips to Arizona and Florida.  For the past three winters they have escaped the MN weather to enjoy the warmth of Florida.

In June of 2022 Greg was diagnosed with cancer.  He had a tumor under his tongue. He bravely went head on into 6 weeks of daily radiation treatments and weekly chemotherapy under the excellent care of his team at the University of MN.  In true Greg fashion, he never complained. Not once. He was always positive, optimistic and determined to beat the cancer. Despite his valiant fight, Greg passed away suddenly while in Florida.

He will be remembered for his other-centeredness, unbelievable kindness, silly and quick sense of humor, and especially for his ever present smile that lit up any room he was in.  He will be greatly missed by people from all over the world. Heaven truly gained an angel on February 2nd. We all love you Greg ~ Mr. D.
