Gloria Jean Lane Wiebusch was born on December 21, 1930 in Manchester, Iowa. As a child, she lived in several towns in northern Iowa. She graduated from Algona High School in 1948. She was proud of her Iowa heritage and enjoyed her grandparents' farms.
Gloria became a Registered Nurse in 1952, graduating second in her class from the Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester, MN. As a result, she was congratulated by Dr. Charles Mayo at her graduation.
While in nursing school, she met her husband John Fredric "Fred" Wiebusch. They married on May 30, 1953. Gloria and Fred lived briefly in Oklahoma and Texas while Fred served in the US Army. Later, they lived in the Twin Cities Minneapolis-St. Paul metro, primarily in White Bear Lake for over thirty years before moving to Rochester. Most recently, Gloria lived at Waverly Gardens in North Oaks, MN for over 10 years.
Gloria was proud of her nursing skills, her connection with the Mayo Clinic and was very knowledgeable about medicine in general. She worked at various hospitals, and was one of the first hospice nurses in the Twin Cities. After retiring from hospital nursing, she was an administrator for many years at Our Lady of Good Counsel Free Cancer Home (St. Paul), supporting their hospice ministry and working as a nurse when needed.
Gloria enjoyed many hobbies: gardening, canning, cooking, baking, sewing and knitting, some of these with Fred. She and Fred shared this bounty with others, and were also generous in supporting various non-profits. They enjoyed playing bridge and other card games. They were avid Minnesota sports fans. Initially with Fred and for 25 years through 2022, Gloria especially enjoyed Gopher football season tickets. They attended Twins World Series games in both 1987 and 1991. They cheered on the Vikings during their Super Bowl years.
Gloria had a great hunger for God. She was an active member of North Heights Lutheran Church in Roseville, MN for nearly 50 years. While living in Rochester, she was a charter member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, a church plant. She was active in prayer ministries, believing in the power of prayer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Wiebusch, her parents George Beecher and Mabel Lane and her sister Delores Pentecost. She is survived by her brother: Cary Lane (Susan); her daughters: Suzanne Wiebusch (Jeffrey Tunseth), Wendy Berthelsen (Joel), and Tamara Liansi (Keith); her grandchildren: Devin Tunseth (Amber), Braden Tunseth (engaged to Autumn), Amara Mattingly (Jeffrey), Stefan Frank Berthelsen (Alexandra), Philip Berthelsen (Amy Lattanzi), Ana Holland (Josiah) and David Liansi; two great grandchildren: Arthur Tunseth and Jay Mattingly; and many nieces and nephews. Gloria was proud of her family.
Memorials may be designated to either Samaritan's Purse (Medical), North Heights Lutheran Church, Alzheimer's Association, or donor's choice.
The service will be live streamed- if you are unable to attend, please join us over the airwaves.
