Jerry was born to Florence (nee Fitzgerald) and Emil Peters on August 4, 1923 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He attended Leo High School and the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. He met the love of his life, Mary Barbara Gruener and they were married on June 28, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois. Jerry served in the United States Naval Air Corp as a pilot during World War II and he was later in the United States Naval Reserve. His job brought him and Mary to Minnesota as he was a Quality Control Manager for Whirlpool Corporation in St. Paul. During his free time, Jerry loved to garden, golf, travel, bowl and paint. He was learning German, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, he enjoyed music and he was an avid sports fan. Although he had many hobbies, his family was by far his number one priority in life. He was a religious family man and will be remembered for being a wonderful dad, a loving boppa and a fun loving man. His sense of humor and calm demeanor will be forever missed.
Jerry passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loving family Tuesday, January 20, 2015. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary; parents, Emil and Florence; and brother, Edward.
Jerry will be dearly missed by his children, Mary (Rick) Johnson of Cloquet, Loretta (Bruce) Peterson of River Falls, Gerry (Jackie) of Eden Prairie, Teresa Hultman of Vadnais Heights and Tom of Woodbury; 13 grandchildren, Bryce (Elizabeth), Devon (Jennifer), Anne (Richard), Brent (Ashley), Chris (fiancé, Sarah), Colin (anna), Nick (Lindsay), Megan, Reid, Rachel (Matt), Emily (Omar), Tierney and Kellen; 8 great-great-grandchildren, Dylan, Sloane, Madeline, Gavin, Colette, Natalie, Sophia and Omar; and many other family and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30AM on Friday, January 23, 2015 at St. Pius the X Catholic Church, 3878 Highland Ave., White Bear Lake with visitation one hour prior to Mass at the church. Interment, St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Cemetery in White Bear Lake. Memorials preferred to Catholic Charities.
