Gary Olson

Gary Lee Olson Age 83 of Hugo Passed away on September 28, 2021, at home surrounded by family. Gary grew up in Vadnais Heights and graduated from White Bear Lake High School where he was the first wrestler to place in the MN State Tournament. Gary then earned a degree in Business after attending Bemidji State and Mankato State Universities, where he also played football and wrestled. Gary was a business and civics teacher in the St. Paul school district for over 30 years, while also owning/operating Brookside Farm for 37 years with his lifelong partner, Mary Armstrong. Gary was a golden gloves boxer, who also enjoyed coaching his sons. He enjoyed hunting/fishing, cooking, singing and playing his guitar, gardening, spending time with those he loved, and sharing his sense of humor. Gary was preceded in death by parents, Harold Sr. & Elvera; siblings, Wallace, Rich, Phyllis Starkey, Mary Lou Ahlstrom, Harold, and Jim; soulmate, Mary Armstrong; and baby, Therese Olson. Gary is survived by his children, Chris, Eric (Jodi), Kathy Welch, and Kelly (Greg); grandchildren, David, Jeret, Justin, Jacob Welch, Emily, and Mitchell; and his brother, Bill (Jean) Olson. A visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Tuesday, October 5th at Mueller Memorial, 4738 Bald Eagle Avenue, White Bear Lake. The funeral is 11am on Wednesday, October 6th at Mueller Memorial with visitation 1 hour prior. Burial will follow at Elmhurst Cemetery.
