Betty was born in Madelia, Minnesota on November 21, 1941. She was the daughter of Ethel and Joseph Heitzig. When she was a child, her father moved her to the Twin Cities to be closer to medical care at the University of Minnesotaâs hospital. He was able to get a job at 3M and moved to St. Paulâs Eastside. Betty graduated from Harding High School in St. Paul and went on to take some more courses after high school. She became a telephone operator at Bell Communications. She eventually retired from her job working for the government in accounts receivable. Her department specialized in immigration. Her children were the center of her life and she loved being a mom to Lisa and Keith. Outside of work, Betty was an avid reader but also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She listened to music but particularly loved Celine Dion and Elvis. Her favorite times were spent with her grandchildren and children but whenever possible, she would get out and about to go shopping. Betty passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 21, 2017. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Ethel (nee Britzman) and Joseph Heitzig; her beloved companion, Stan Rowan; her sister, Linda Karshinia; a baby sibling; and her pets, Roscoe, Blackie, Jasmine, Pepper, Snow, and Lady . She will be missed by her son, Keith (Amber) of Bowbells, North Dakota; her daughter, Lisa (Greg) Nase of Columbus; her grandchildren, Josh (Nikki), Sarah (Alex), Zach (Hannah), Hannah, Joe (Alyson), Gabrielle, Jacob, Angelica, Emmaline, Chloe, Chelsea, Mya; her great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Courtney Jr., Jeremiah, Noelle, Oliver, Nolan, Tommie Boy, Raelyn, Evelyn, Penelope, Adam and Ben; her siblings, Joe Heitzig of Inver Grove Heights, Mary Ann Riederer of Springfield, Jean Morris of Kenmare, North Dakota; special niece, Mary Jean Heitzig of Austin, Texas; special friend, Rita,Theresa, Jeanette and Lori for adopting Storm; and many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
