Elizabeth "Betty" Fousek, 91, of St. Paul, passed away on September 7, 2024. She was preceded in death by parents, Emma and George; and siblings, Dorothy, Lois, and George "Bud". She is survived by her sister, Faye Van Ness; sister in law, Jan; and many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews; and other family and friends.
Betty was born in Olivia, MN and attended a one room school house. Every summer as a teen she detasseled corn to earn money. She graduated from Olivia High and continued her education at college in Winona, MN earning a bachelors degree. She then moved to St. Paul and was employed as a secretary for many years at the Wilder foundation and during Christmas time she wrapped gifts at Shunemans Department Store. She then went to work for over 30 years as a secretary for the Evangelical Lutheran Area Synod. As Bishop Mark Hanson mentioned in her retirement release: "As a devout Roman Catholic, Betty entered into a sea of strong-willed, creative Lutherans and knew when to ride the waves and when to stand on shore."
Betty was a talented seamstress and created the wedding dresses for her 3 sisters and their bridesmaids. She also made drapes, clothes, hemmed prom dresses, and many other items. She was a faithful fan of all Minnesota sports and any sports, dance recitals, plays, and anything that her nieces and nephews were involved in. She was coach to many different teams throughout the years. She was the chosen babysitter for all her nieces and nephews and their children. When someone needed something, or was going through something, we just called Betty. She was an extraordinary woman. Our family has grown to 150 plus members and each and everyone of us can remember and is thankful for the kindness, cards, and gifts she's given. 91 years and 10 months of life-quite a record of a life well lived. Oh...and she was a "Bossy" older sister!
