Born January 24, 1927 in Lake Crystal, MN. Passed away peacefully on April 2, 2014 at Cerenity Marian in St. Paul. Edythe was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert R. Stahnke; parents, Fredrick and Emma Barnett; brothers, Frank and Alfred; sisters, Mabel, Hazel, Ruth, Irene, Vera, Mildred and Eunice. She is survived by her loving children, Herb (Cindy), Scott (Diane), Janice (John); grandchildren, Terra, Tisa, Danielle, Graham, Tyler, Kia; great-grandchildren, Alex, Ethan, James, Rex; sister-in-law, Geraldine; and by many nieces and nephews. Edythe was a Mounds-Midway School of Nursing graduate under the U.S. Army Cadet Nursing Program. She worked in Intensive and Coronary Care at Mounds Park Hospital, where she was a pioneer in heart patient nursing care and later worked in Infection Control. She was a dedicated nurse for over 40 years. Edythe was a Cub Scout den mother, PTA president and volunteered throughout her life-including Docent at Gibbs Farm Museum, Harding High School Nursery Baby Rocker, Mounds Park UMC newsletter, Red Cross and Twin Cities Public TV fundraising. She was an amazing gardener; her gardens were a delight to the neighborhood. Edythe loved to make desserts and gave away thousands of cookies, bars and breads at Christmas time. Edythe enjoyed traveling the world and relished in telling the fascinating stories of her journeys through China, Italy, England, Switzerland, Ireland, France, Jamaica and most of the United States. She enjoyed spending time with her husband and children at the cabin on Lake Wapogasset. She is extremely proud of her children and grandchildren’s accomplishments. Her feisty spirit will be sadly missed by all who crossed her path. Funeral Service 10:30 AM Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Mounds Park United Methodist Church, 1049 Euclid Street, St. Paul. Visitation 4-7 PM Wednesday at Mueller Parkway Chapel, 835 Johnson Parkway, St. Paul and also one hour prior to the time of the service at the church on Thursday. Private family interment, Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Mahtomedi. Memorials will be donated to Edythe’s favorite charities.
