Dolores Genevieve Marier (nee Lavallee)
Lifetime Resident of Hugo, Minnesota
Passed Away August 9, 2016 at Age 100
Dolores was born in Hugo, Minnesota on October 9, 1915. She was the daughter of Emma (nee LaCasse) and Oliver Lavallee. She was raised in Hugo and was baptized at St. John the Baptist Church. She attended grade school in Centerville and graduated from White Bear High School. Dolores met the love of her life, Andrew J. Marier while at a party on a date with another gentleman. Her kids joke that the other man had to move away to California just to get over his heart being broken. She and Andrew hit it off and began dating shortly after. The two were married five years later at St. John the Baptist Church in Hugo. Dolores enjoyed quilting in her free time, gardening, helping Andrew with his beekeeping, and spending time with friends and family. They were avid card players and could be found playing cribbage, pinochle, or any game that the Hugo Card Club was playing. They owned and operated the Marier Grocery Store, which they bought in the 1940âs. Outside of working together, she and Andrew spent most of their free time together too and they particularly loved working in the garden. They somehow found time to travel all over and their favorite trips were to Mexico and Niagara Falls. Andrew passed away in 2011, just a month shy of their 75th anniversary. Dolores had an amazing personality and a phenomenal sense of humor. In recent years, she lived at White Pines Assisted Living in White Bear Lake before transferring for a short amount of time to Ecumen Parmly Care Center in Chisago City. Dolores passed away peacefully on the afternoon of August 9, 2016, with her daughters by her side. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
