Preceded in death by parents, Charles O. and Catherine Bastien; sisters, Joan Rowe and Catherine Marthaler. Survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Lorraine (nee Marchek); children, Claire Bastien, Anne Bastien Petersen (Curt), Patrice Mueller (Craig), Monica Bastien, Charles Bastien; grandchildren, Nick, Molly and Laura Petersen, Peter (Annie), Christopher and Max Mueller, Sophia and Xzander Bastien; sister, Peggy Kelsch; many nieces and nephews. Proudly served his country in the USAAF, 2nd Air Division, 492nd Bomb Group based at North Pickenham, England during WWII where he flew 33 missions in a B-24 Liberator. Following the war, he was employed at Armour & Co. for over 30 years. In later years, Dick researched and published a history of his bomb group, and remained in contact with his fellow fliers to the end. He was a true gentleman and consummate family man who loved his children and grandchildren, and will be remembered for his selfless commitment to his family, eternal optimism and lifelong learning. A celebration of his life will be held on December 27, 2012 at 11 AM at MUELLER PARKWAY CHAPEL, 835 Johnson Parkway, St. Paul with visitation one hour prior to the service. A lunch will be served immediately following. Private interment. Memorials to donor’s choice.
