Carol Helen Dorner (Zecka)

CAROL HELEN DORNER (nee ZECKA) Age 90 of St. Paul Passed Away on May 2, 2016 Carol was born on St. Paul’s west side on June 7, 1925 to Pauline (nee Tschida) and Oscar Zecka. In 1929, her parents built a house on the North Side of Saint Paul and moved there to raise their family. Carol attended St. Bernard’s Catholic School and graduated from Washington High School. In high school, she met Donald James Dorner, however, the two did not begin dating until after graduation when they met while dancing one night. Carol always wanted a big family and Donald made that dream come true when they got married. They had ten children together and raised them in St. Paul. For over 20 years, she was a retail clerk for Dayton’s Department Store in Downtown St. Paul. Carol enjoyed listening to country music, going for walks with a group of retired women, walking at the mall, and in the neighborhood. She enjoyed volunteering her time at St. Pascal’s in the lunchroom during funerals and other events. Carol’s greatest love was her family, spending time with her children and grandchildren at events in their lives, such as baptisms, confirmations, birthdays, graduations, weddings and sporting events. Christmas held a special place in her heart. When the entire family would get together, a full house and everyone having fun was what she wanted and loved. Carol was a very caring woman who will be remembered for her positive outlook on life and her great attitude. She was truly the definition of a loving mother. She will be missed, but never forgotten. Thanks mom. Carol passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2016 at St. John’s Hospital in Maplewood. She had been living at the Shores of Lake Phalen for two years. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald J. Dorner; her son, Kenneth Dorner; and her sister, Kathryn Haga. She will be dearly missed by her children, Gregory Dorner of St. Paul, Ronald (Vicky) Dorner of Balsam Lake, Gerald (Stephanie) Dorner of North Carolina, Robert Dorner of Hugo, James (Lynn) Dorner of Lino Lakes, Cathy (Craig) Lundeen of Hugo, Timothy Dorner of Lake Elmo, Jean (Kurt) Adamson of Grant Township, and Richard (Tina) Dorner of Inver Grove Heights; 16 grandchildren, Christopher, Benjamin, Matthew, Leah, Mariah, Scott, Jennifer (Tom) Belisle, Amy, Stephanie, Kristine (Shaun) Girard, Jeremy, Kelly, Jacob, Justin, Luke, and Dylan; 10 great-grandchildren, Taylor, Benjamin, Joseph, Madelyn, Olivia, William, Carter, Gavin, Kassidy, Tyler, and Michael; her sister, Doris Sletner; and many other family and friends. There will be a gathering for friends and family from 4:00-7:00PM on Monday, May 9, 2016 at Mueller Memorial, 835 Johnson Parkway, St. Paul.
