Beloved Dad, Grandpa
& Great-Grandpa
Age 90. Passed away peacefully on March 10, 2014 surrounded by family. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Maryann; parents, Frank and Agnes Klaas; brothers, Raymond and Bert; grandson, Michael Kozub; and great-grandson, Chance Borner. Ben is survived by children, Barbara (Gary) Mitchell, John Klaas, Margaret (Bob) Kozub, Steve Klaas, Susan (Dave) Snell; brother, Francis (Eileen) Klaas; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Born October 25, 1923 in Parkston, SD and raised in St. Paul. Ben graduated from Humboldt High School in 1942, the same year he joined the U.S. Navy. He proudly served his country during WWII as an electricians mate aboard the submarine USS POGY. After the war, he began a career in the carpet business where he spent his last 30 years as carpet dept. mgr. at St. Paul Linoleum & Carpet Co. Ben enjoyed many years as a long blade ice skater and a private small plane pilot. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 AM Monday, March 17, 2014 at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, 8260 4th Street North, Oakdale with visitation from 9:00 AM to the time of the Mass at church on Monday. Interment in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials made to the Salvation Army of St. Paul and Guardian Angels Catholic Church.
