Anna Elia

Anna M. Elia (nee Guzzo) 
Age 88 of St. Paul, passed peacefully on August 8, 2022. Anna was born on December 14, 1933 in Piane Crati, Cosenza, Calabria, Italy. She was one of three children to Patrick and Mary Guzzo. When she was only 14, her family moved to the United States and made Minnesota their home. Anna married James "Cesaro Giacomo" Elia at St. Jerome's Catholic Church on August 16, 1951 and together they had two sons, Joseph and Anthony. She was very devoted to her church and was a member of the Legion of Mary and St. Patrick's Church Altar and Rosary Society for over 40 years. She volunteered her time, preparing funeral luncheons and visiting the sick and elderly at local care facilities. Anna truly loved life and had an uncanny ability to find the positive in any situation. She was a kind and loving person; enjoying spending time with her grandchildren, relatives, and friends, gardening, knitting and cooking - she made phenomenal pastas, cakes, and cookies.
Anna is preceded in death by her husband of over 55 years, James "Cesaro Giacomo" Elia; her parents, Patrick and Mary Guzzo; and her brother, James Guzzo. She is survived by her two sons, Joseph (Annette) Elia and Anthony (Cynthia) Elia; her 7 grandchildren, Dawn, Melanie, Anthony Jr., Michael, Danielle, Rebecca, and Jacob; great-grandchildren, great-great grandchild; her brother, Frank (Yvonne) Guzzo; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Special thanks to Hospice of the Midwest and Artis Senior Living Memory Care for the wonderful care and dedicated service. 
Visitation 4-7pm with vigil prayers at 6:30pm on Wednesday August 17th at Mueller Memorial Parkway Chapel, 835 Johnson Pkwy, St. Paul. Mass of Christian Burial 11am with Rosary at 10am on Thursday, August 18th at St. Patrick's Church, 1095 DeSoto St. St. Paul. Interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
