Memorial Day isn’t all barbeque and beers, it’s a day meant to be spent celebrating those who have sacrificed to preserve America’s freedom and way of life. So we at Mueller Memorial Funeral & Cremation Service recommend taking some time out this Monday to attend an event to honor the men and women who have served in our Armed Forces.


If you’re looking for an event, ceremony or service in the Minneapolis or St Paul area, we’ve put together this list to help you find where to go on Memorial Day.

St. Paul/Minneapolis, Fort Snelling National Cemetery – Memorial Day Service  7601 34th Avenue, South
Minneapolis, MN 55450-1199 Ceremony: May 26 at 10:00 a.m. There is at  limited information available on the website so questions would probably be bettered answered by calling (612) 726-1127. They do expect many people so plan to arrive early. 


St. Paul, State Capitol – War Memorials  Minnesota’s war dead, veterans, POW and MIA are memorialized in the grounds of the Minnesota State Capitol in St. Paul. There are memorials for every major conflict in US history. The Civil War, the Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War are remembered here. St. Paul, State Capitol – Veterans For Peace Memorial Day Gathering  Veterans For Peace will be holding it yearly Memorial Day gathering remembering the casualties of war on Monday May 26 th at 9:30am on the grassy area beside the Minnesota Vietnam Veterans Memorial at the state capitol grounds on John Ireland Boulevard. Program will include reading the names of Minnesota’s fallen, speaker, song, and poetry. Bring chairs and umbrella in case of rain.  http://www.vfpchapter27.org/?q=node/58 


South St Paul – Memorial Day Parade and Memorial Service  Monday May 26 th  beginning at 9:30am the parade will travel along Southview Blvd beginning at Fifth Ave. and 6 th  St. North. It will end in Oak Hill Cemetery where a memorial service will be held at 10:15am. Contact Roger Schwagmeyer for additional information at 612-741-7258

St. Paul, Fort Snelling – Military History Living Timeline  Monday May 26 th 10am-5pm – Travel through the past with a special living timeline of military life through history during this special day honoring America’s soldiers. Costumed staff and reenactors will interpret different eras of military history through uniform and equipment displays as well as weapons demonstrations. St. Paul, Como – Memorial Day Challenge Hearts & Minds 5K  A 2.5K and 5K run will be held at Como Lake in St. Paul, located at 1360 Lexington Pkwy. N., St. Paul, MN 55103. Minneapolis – Memorial Day Ceremony  Lakewood Cemetery will honor the 100th Anniversary of World War I at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 26. Robert Robinson will lead a Gospel quartet, and the Minneapolis Police Band will play at the ceremony followed by the releasing of doves. Minneapolis, Target Field – Military Monday  May 26 th 2014 – Twins vs Rangers 1:10pm Active military members or veterans (plus four guests) with a valid military ID, discharge papers or membership card from the Legion, VFW, or DAV will receive a half-price ticket in Home Plate View seating locations (available day of game only). http://mlb.mlb.com/schedule/?c_id=min#y=2014&m=5&calendar=DEFAULT


Eagan – Memorial Day Remembrance  Fallen police, firemen, and military will be remembered at the Tribute and Memorial Plaza in Eagan Central Park, 1501 Central Parkway. Richfield – Honoring All Veterans Memorial Day Ceremony  This ceremony takes place at 2 p.m. Monday, May 26. The featured guest speaker is Walter Holm, a World War II Merchant Marine Veteran. The 34th Infantry “Red Bull” Band will entertain attendees, and food and beverage will be available for purchase before and after the ceremony. St. Louis Park – Memorial Day Service  The Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion will honor those who served the country on Monday, May 26, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Amphitheater, located at Wolfe Park, 3700 Monterey Dr. Find more information at  http://www.stlouispark.org/events/memorial-day-service.html


Golden Valley – Memorial Day Flag Row  May 26 there will be 600 flags lining Golden Valley Road between Highway 100 and Winnetka Avenue North to honor those who have fallen while protecting their country and the more than 83,000 currently listed POW/MIAs still unaccounted for. People are invited to walk the 1½ mile stretch of roadway to pay tribute to previous military soldiers. Shakopee – Memorial Day at The Landing  Experience life along the Minnesota River as you meet fur traders, townsfolk, and farmers. Ride the Percheron horse-drawn trolley and play old-fashioned games. Meet Civil War soldiers, listen to a brass band and play baseball (Monday only). Memorial Day Ceremony (Monday 2 PM). Lake Mille Lacs – Memorial Day Pow-Wow  If your family is headed up to the Lake Mille Lacs area this weekend join museum staff and community members at the Mille Lacs Indian Museum’s annual Memorial Day Powwow. Bring the family to participate in a social gathering honoring American Indian veterans past and present and experience firsthand the excitement of a contemporary pow-wow.
