Obituary for Arthur Nicholas Pernokas

Arthur Nicholas Pernokas
Dr.Arthur Nicholas Pernokas
Age 88 of White Bear Lake, MN,formerly of Atkinson, NH and North Andover, MA

Arthur passed away on May 9, 2017 in White Bear Lake, MN surrounded by his family.
He was born on May 18, 1928 in South Boston, Massachusetts. He was one of four children of Sylvia Ann [Mullavey] and Nicholas Elias Pernokas. He attended Boston Latin School, Boston University and Tufts University.

From early times in his life, his family visited relatives in Lincoln, New Hampshire. Each time they visited he would seek out the company of a certain girl, Joyce Walsh. After two years in the US Army, spent mostly in Trieste, Italy, Arthur returned home to finish his schooling. Joyce became his wife on September 5, 1954. They made their home in North Andover, Massachusetts and Arthur set up his orthodontic practice in Haverhill. He had a natural way with children and loved to make them laugh. Eventually, they had a second home in Newbury, NH, where his family and friends would gather summers to enjoy Lake Sunapee. Upon retirement Arthur and Joyce moved to Atkinson NH, then to Madison, WI, and White Bear Lake, MN to be close to their daughters. Arthur was a Boston Red Sox baseball fan and when he was not working or spending time with his family, he could be found golfing. He was a devoted husband to Joyce for over 63 years and a wonderful father and grandpa.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce and daughters Karen (Mike) Pappas of White Bear Lake, MN and Martha (Clark] Johnson of Madison, WI and grandchildren Dana and Christopher Johnson and Anna and Jonathan Pappas, brother Louis and his wife Charlotte of Stephenville,TX, sister Kathleen West of Westerly, RI, and brother John and wife Laura of Wolfeboro,NH.

There was a private farewell ceremony for Arthur attended by his immediate family with Chaplain Bruce Nelson present for prayers on May 10TH.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Nicholas John Pernokas Recreation Park, P.O. Box 838, Wolfeboro, NH, 03894. [thenick.org]
